Top 10: Continuing on from No. 6 to No. 4

  1. Springer’s redemption shot, World Series Game 5
They got down. They came back. They got down again, they came back again. The Houston Astros faced deficits of 4-0 and 7-4 and managed to stay in the game. After a worrisome leadoff double by Justin Turner in the seventh, the threat was neutralized after a poor idea and even worse execution on a Kiké Hernandez bunt. But then Springer misplayed a Bellinger line drive, diving for the ball and letting it get past him all the way to the wall. The Dodgers reclaimed the lead, but not for long. It was almost immediate redemption for Springer, who knotted things back up after a quick stretch and rendition of “Deep In the Heart of Texas.” This homer was also the point where Joe Buck clearly had lost all of his sanity.
  1. Altuve ties it up, World Series Game 5
I’ve already told you the ups and downs of Game 5, as if you didn’t know. But just to recap, the Dodgers jumped out to 4-0, Gurriel tied it with a three-run bomb in the bottom of the 4th, and then Cody Bellinger put LA back on top with a three-run homer of his own in the 5th. After a ten-pitch battle, Kershaw walked Bregman to bring up Altuve. Dave Roberts went to his pen and brought in Kenta Maeda. Here’s what happened next:
  1. Houston Astros win the pennant, ALCS Game 7
It may have been on an ordinary fly ball, but come on, the Houston Astros won the pennant! It was only the second time in franchise history, the first time in the American League, and the first time in front of the home fans. Based on it being a Game 7 and ticket prices a bit cheaper than the World Series, I’ve been told by many that they felt this game was the loudest Minute Maid has ever been. Lance McCullers got the four-inning save on 24 straight curveballs, and an even bigger save in the post-game interview….
