One week ago, the Houston Astros were able to seize the World Series championship and now our fan base is ranked No. 1 world according to the latest poll of polls.

Of course, the Houston Astros made history by securing their first World Series trophy to go up in their empty case that had been collecting dust since Adam.  What we thought was an amazing dream has finally become a reality and the success of the Houston Astros came quicker than we thought.

Through those rough years earlier this decade as well as late into the last, we’ve been through a lot of suffering.  We’d consistently have teams out there that would try to go out and win but we just didn’t have the magic from that 2005 team that went all the way, only to get swept by the Chicago White Sox.  It was disheartening but it gave credence to the fact that us as sports fans were doomed and Murphy’s Law was prevalent among Houston Astros faithful.

Speaking of faithful, FanSided has recently taken a worldwide poll of the Top 250 fanbases in the world and only 11 MLB teams made the cut.  Guess what? The Houston Astros are currently ranked No. 1 out of those said teams.

Take a look at the latest results and vote here!

Here at FanSided, we refer to it as the Fandom 250.  Because of an incredible postseason run and terrific season to boot, it’s no surprise that the Astros currently hold the top spot.  It’s important to note that the Chicago Cubs were the ultimate winners last season because they had secured their first World Series since 1908.  Will Astros continue to hold their lead?  We’ll have to see!

More from House of Houston

Voting will continue until through Dec. 12th, so Astros fans, vote as much you possibly can if you want your fandom to be recognized across the globe!

As I reflect back on how far we’ve come, when Jeff Luhnow was hired in 2011, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I was hopeful with the hire because his former employer, the St. Louis Cardinals came from a history of winning *cough* *cough* cheating presently and hopefully some his processes would rub off on this team hungry to be out of the cellar again.

It took three seasons of grueling futility — losing 100 games or more — to finally get a point of winning.  From 2014 to the present, Luhnow’s brainchild has finally come to fruition.

It wasn’t easy being a Astros fan during those rough years.  Coincedentally, I usually average about 20 games per season as far as attendance and it was so hallow and empty at the Juicebox, you could easily have a conversation with a neighbor a section over from yours!  I’m not kidding!

But those days are over and the Astros fanbase is now loud and proud of their team, bandwagon fans or not.  One thing’s for sure is that it’s a tremendously opportunistic time to be an Astros fan at this moment and I think this could be the first of many championships.

But for right now, I’ll settle for this one because it’s never sweeter than savoring your first.

Go Astros!
