I’ve Got A Secret

Can I share something with y’all? I have a dream that I’ve always wanted to have. It may sound farfetched or pretty common to y’all. But I feel I need to share.

My dream is to see a Houston team win a professional championship. I never cared who it was between the Houston Astros, Rockets, or Texans. But now, I feel the Houston Astros are on the cusp of fulfilling my dream.

Why do I want that? Because my dad was in attendance for Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals, which we know what happened there.

Of course, my family says I was watching the game on TV. That may be true, but I don’t remember anything. I was too young to remember.

Anyways, I want to see it happen live because not only will I get to see it, but my brother and sister, who were born after 1995, will see it too. We had a chance in 2005, but we came up short. Of course, it was nice to see the Dynamo win championships. The Houston Aeros got a couple of league titles. And yes, the Houston Comets were championship teams too and we did see them win at the old Compaq Center.

But why do I want to see this live when I saw championships in other forms live? I just want to feel what it’s like to have a championship team in Houston. I want to know what it’s like to see your players on late night talk shows or having a championship DVD made about them. I wouldn’t mind seeing Jose Altuve on the Jimmy Kimmel show or George Springer doing Live with Kelly Ripa and whoever her cohost is.

I want to feel proud to know that I can come home to Houston knowing that for one year, my team had a special season and became champions in the world. I could care less if we win more than one. All I ask is that we just win this one. As great of a city as Los Angeles is and their sports franchises, I don’t think anyone deserves it more than Houston.

I do hope that it happens that we beat the Dodgers in front of celebrities and their fans. But I also don’t know if it will. I pray that it does.
