With the New York Yankees as the opponent for the ALCS, Houston Astros fans should be confident. The chances of getting to the World Series appear to be higher than before.

But still Houston Astros fans, the pinstripes are no pushover. Having seen them come back to beat the Indians, they give us a reminder of what makes their team the most elite in all of sports.

I know I’ve written a lot lately and I apologize if every article you see from me has been on a consistent basis. This might be the last entry I post for some time until after this series. But this postseason is getting more intense and sometimes it helps me to write down my thoughts. Now that the Yankees are playing us in the ALCS, the war goes on.

We’ve already defeated one elite franchise just as the Yankees defeated one franchise with over 100 wins. Why not make it two for each team? Something has to give and I can only pray that it’s us in the World Series.

So we know what’s going down tonight. We know people are going to be all over the series. If you were a baseball expert who understood and have a love for the game, you would expect the series to be tight, but the Houston Astros to win. But if you were a media personality or someone who lives in today’s world of social media, arrogance, and dreams of being rich and famous, then the Yankees are your pick to win.

Why Think That Way Man?

In today’s world, popularity always wins out, unfortunately. There’s a narrative in sports that people want to go by and see. In the NBA, it was Russell Westbrook for MVP and the Golden State Warriors to win a championship. That was the reality. In the NFL, it was Dak Prescott leading the Dallas Cowboys back to the glory days of the Super Bowl. That might’ve been true had the Cowboys not lost to the Packers.

In the NFL, it was Dak Prescott leading the Dallas Cowboys back to the glory days of the Super Bowl. That might’ve been true had the Cowboys not lost to the Packers.

Last year, it was the Chicago Cubs breaking a 108-year curse to win a World Series. Definitely true!

So where does this leave the Yankees? Arguably, in my opinion, the Yankees are among the top five American teams that are recognized along with the Cowboys, the New England Patriots, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the San Antonio Spurs.

Reasons

Part of the reason why the Yankees are that way is that of the bandwagoners. It’s easy for people to jump on the bandwagon for the pinstripes because they win a lot.

Part of the reason because of this is because the Yankees have the resources to buy the best players out there to attract fans.

But the biggest reason why the Yankees are that way is that the players they inherit come together and form a championship baseball team. 40 Yankee teams reached the fall classic.  27 Yankee teams were successful. That’s nearly a 68% winning percentage, which is good in sports.

It didn’t matter whether the Yankees were as strong as the 1927 team or the underdogs as the 1996 team. They will find a way to win. That’s what we saw against the Indians.

We may have a 5-2 record against them, but that doesn’t change the fact the Yankees will give us a tough test.

So what is it about this series that makes it intimidating. What is it about the Yankees that will make us either heroic if we beat them or just another number if we don’t?

There’s a connection there that’s been around all the time.
