Houston Texans: Three reasons why J.J. Watt is Person of the Year
Where the Central Point Is
Every documentary on A Football Life has a central point. For Watt, it’s been his good deeds. We all as Houston Texans fans know what he has done.
- Become friends with three kids who lost their parents in a car crash and two of them were paralyzed.
- Had a wedding for a little girl who was sad that she couldn’t marry Watt due to her age.
- Hung out with a kid battling cancer who had to use a robot (named Watt) to go to school.
- Spent time with another cancer patient as part of ESPN’s My Wish series.
- Helped proved a point to a kid who’s friends didn’t believe he was friends with JJ.
- Helped a softball player enjoy a day at JJ’s Charity softball event even after she lost the memorabilia of Watt.
- Surprised his 4th-grade teacher, who was retiring from school teaching.
Okay! You get the point. So Watt is a humanitarian. But while we like his characteristics off the field, most people would prefer Watt for his other side.
Drew Brees and the Saints know his other side.
So there are people who love Watt on the football side. But of course, you have those who consider him overrated and perhaps some who think he’s trying to be goody good. I won’t give examples because they’re ridiculous.
But while all of his accomplishments on and off the field are impressive and amazing to a degree, nothing will forever define him like what he has done to Houston after Harvey.
