Thing #3: And they all lived happily, ever after…right?

You would imagine that this would finish on a positive note. Let’s look back to the videos that we saw earlier. How did the stories end up finishing?

  • Texas A&M upset then #5 Texas 20-16 and went to the Alamo Bowl where they lost 24-0 to Penn State.
  • Mike Piazza’s Mets didn’t make the playoffs. But the New York Yankees went to the World Series losing in seven to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • The Saints reached the NFC Championship game and won the Super Bowl three years later.
  • Virginia Tech goes 11-3 and makes the Orange Bowl where they lost to #8 Kansas.
  • The Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox reach the Stanley Cup Finals and World Series losing to the Chicago Blackhawks and beating the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ideally, our story would end with us winning a World Series. In fact, our story would end with us winning a World Series, Super Bowl, and an NBA Finals championship all in the same year. That’s the way to have the story finish.

Next: THREE things to mull as the Astros hit their stretch run

Truthfully, the chances of that happening are slim to none. But we have to prepare for something special to happen. We went through the worst storm and we’ll continue to recover. We will get stronger and better than before. But if there’s a reason for the Houston Astros to win and be an escape, you don’t need to look far than the floodwaters surrounding Houston now.

So to the Houston Astros, I say go out there and win it all. Be an escape to these Houstonians. We can work together and show everyone how much heart we have.
