2007 – What comes after Utah?

2007 was a pretty decent year for Houston. But sadly, this was the last year in the Jeff Van Gundy era as he was fired following the playoff loss to Utah in the first round. So, for this season, we’re looking at whether Jeff Van Gundy would still have kept his job. Houston just won game seven against the Jazz and are ready to take on the #8-seeded Golden State Warriors?

That’s right! The Warriors upset the #1-seed Dallas Mavericks in the first round. So Houston has to be aware that Golden State is going to be a tough match. Here we go with round two.

2007 Western Conference Semifinals – Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets

Game 1 in Houston: Rockets 107-97 (1-0 HOU)

Game 2 in Houston: Rockets 110-91 (2-0 HOU)

Game 3 in Golden State: Rockets 106-104 (3-0 HOU)

Game 4 in Golden State: Rockets 102-92 (4-0 HOU)

Houston Rockets win series 4-0

Was there ever a doubt? I don’t think so! With the exception of game three, the Rocket clearly steamrolled the Warriors and ended their dream season. So now, the Rockets will have a rematch of the Western Conference Finals from 2005 with the Spurs. Can the Rockets exact revenge or will the Spurs be the Spurs again in 2007? It’s time to find out.

2007 Western Conference Finals – Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs

Game 1 in San Antonio: Rockets 92-88 (1-0 HOU)

Game 2 in San Antonio: Spurs 104-76 (1-1)

Game 3 in Houston: Rockets 98-77 (2-1 HOU)

Game 4 in Houston: Spurs 94-87 (2-2)

Game 5 in San Antonio: Rockets 94-91 (3-2 HOU)

Game 6 in Houston: Spurs 106-94 (3-3)

Game 7 in San Antonio: Rockets 97-96 (4-3 HOU)

Houston Rockets win series 4-0

The Spurs had three chances to win the series. They should’ve won game one and win in six. They should’ve won game five and win in six. Darn it, they should’ve won game seven. All critical home games for them turned into rust as Houston exacts their revenge and beats the Spurs. The Rockets are going back to the NBA Finals.

Awaiting the Rockets is LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers of the Eastern Conference. Can the Rockets live up to their billing and defeat the Cavaliers or will LeBron steal the Rockets’ momentum? Let’s roll with it.

2007 NBA Finals: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Houston Rockets

Game 1 in Houston: Rockets 112-103 (1-0 HOU)

Game 2 in Houston: Cavaliers 100-91 (1-1)

Game 3 in Cleveland: Rockets 102-101 (2-1 HOU)

Game 4 in Cleveland: Rockets 107-98 (3-1 HOU)

Game 5 in Cleveland: Cavaliers 110-100 (3-2 HOU)

Game 6 in Houston: Rockets (102-83 HOU)

Houston Rockets win series 4-2

Hooray! The Rockets win the 2007 NBA Finals. That makes four championships for Houston. Sure, they didn’t dominate the Cavs like the Spurs did, but it’s still a win. The Rockets win easily in Game one. But LeBron steals game two and the series goes back to Cleveland. T-Mac wins game three for the Rockets while Yao Ming gets a double-double in game four. Houston doesn’t clinch the title in Cleveland in game five. But that’s ok! They’ll win it at Houston again. So Jeff Van Gundy keeps his job.

WAIT A MINUTE! In a shocking change of events, Van Gundy has announced that he will resign as Rockets head coach.

WHAT? Are you serious? What do we do?

Well, it’s time to go to next season.
