2005 – No rigged series after Dallas

Who enjoyed 2005? Remember when Tracy McGrady went 13 in 35? Remember when T-Mac posterized Shawn Bradley? Remember when the Rockets got screwed in a rigged series? Yeah! Me too! I like to think we would’ve beaten Dallas anyway. But who cares now? We’re going to in this experiment.

So Houston is able to win game seven at Dallas. Now they find themselves matched against Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. Let’s see how the series plays out.

2005 Western Conference Semifinals – Houston Rockets vs. Phoenix Suns

Game 1 in Phoenix: Suns 110-97 (1-0 PHX)

Game 2 in Phoenix: Rockets 103-95 (1-1)

Game 3 in Houston: Rockets 107-90 (2-1 HOU)

Game 4 in Houston: Suns 116-100 (2-2)

Game 5 in Phoenix: Rockets 106-101 (3-2 HOU)

Game 6 in Houston: Rockets 108-86

Houston Rockets win series 4-2

Houston probably felt relieved to get by Dallas that they forget what a good team Phoenix is. After losing game one, the Rockets recover to win games 2 and 3. Phoenix does fight back in game 4 to even the series. The Rockets fight tooth and nail in game 5 and steal the win to go up 3-2. This hurts the Suns’ psyche to the point that they don’t show up for game six and Houston wins.

Houston advances to the Western Conference Finals and now, they play the Spurs. Can the Rockets prevent a championship in San Antonio?

2005 Western Conference Finals – Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs

Game 1 in San Antonio: Spurs 100-87 (1-0 SAS)

Game 2 in San Antonio: Spurs 97-88 (2-0 SAS)

Game 3 in Houston: Spurs 118-110 (3-0 SAS)

Game 4 in Houston: Spurs 89-70 (4-0 SAS)

San Antonio Spurs win series 4-0

Yeah! This season hurts big-time. But the truth is the Spurs were the better team that year. Who could blame them? Tim Duncan? Manu Ginobili? Tony Parker? They were good! So the Spurs still go to the NBA Finals and they win a championship regardless. It’s a tough way to end the season. But we must now move on to two seasons later.
