Trade Issues

Okay! This meeting is in session. Let’s start with the one thing people want to know. What happened at the deadline? We now know that aside from Francisco Liriano, the Houston Astros had deals in place for Zach Britton only to be vetoed by owners. Whatever the reason was is unsure as of now. But it has really made Houston Astros fans angry.

We want a championship badly. We will get a championship soon. But the problem is we can’t stand pat anymore after doing so last season. So there seems to be some distrust with the ownership. It can be frustrating right now to have ownership fail. You think they betrayed you when they said they would make a deal, but didn’t.

Is it hard to accept that they tried and had deals put down? Possibly because we know Keuchel wasn’t pleased when he felt betrayed. So everyone seems to be upset over the deal we did make. I’m not too pleased with it myself. I hoped we get something more. Instead, we’re settled with what we got.

The good news though is that we still have a chance to better our team with an August trade. And the one name that seems to be on everyone’s list is Justin Verlander.

However, Verlander is a high-risk, high-reward deal. We’re either getting the same Cy Young pitcher who dominated hitters in recent past. Or we’re getting a shell of himself with a waste of products.

If we get him, are we set up for a World Series run? Or are we going to know Verlander as the guy with Kate Upton by his side?

I can’t honestly say what I feel about the deal because I’m still trying to decide whether it’s good or bad. We would be getting a game changer and someone to help our pitching staff. But it’s going to be a high cost. However, one positive of this would be that when Verlander’s contract is done, we dump him and use the money to pay Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer, and Keuchel.
