The Battle for Texas Pride

All-time, Dallas is 3-1 against the Texans. Our proudest game against them was the first game back in 2002 in when beat them 19-10. Perhaps the Cowboys’ most memorable win in the rivalry was the 20-17 overtime win in 2014. So each team has a big game win against the other. But what would be better was a Super Bowl matchup. With at least 90% rooting for the blue stars, this would surely divide a state. If you take a look at a United States map with NFL teams, you would think Houston was not part of Texas.

That’s not true, but that’s the nature because the Cowboys have dominated the states. We can’t change the way most fans feel about the Cowboys-Texans rivalry. But the only way we can do so is beating them. What better way to do it than in the Super Bowl? We would join the Colts and the Steelers in the beat Cowboys in Super Bowl club.

It might not change the landscape of the fans. But it would show everyone that Texas is the best football state because there are two teams that dominate in the NFL.

A Historical Achievement

The only other reason I can think of this Super Bowl working out is for what it would represent to the African-American community. Given the racial tensions that have been going on recently, this would be a perfect distraction to unite a nation divided by differences of opinion.

There have been African American quarterbacks to start in a Super Bowl before. Doug Williams (XXII), Steve McNair (XXXIV), and Donovan McNabb (XXXIX) just to name a few. But never in the history of the big game have their been two black starting quarterbacks in the same game. If you think about it, Prescott has already earned superstar status while Watson has yet to make a name for himself.

More from House of Houston

Assuming these two make it to the game, it would be a big storyline that was equivalent to Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith in Super Bowl XLI. Add in the youth of the two and we’re talking about two quarterbacks that both have chances to win one if not multiple titles.

Some people have already started to compare Watson to Prescott. But let’s not go there. Watson needs to beat out Tom Savage for the starting job, which I think he will. We’ve already heard great reviews from Bill O’Brien. But this is training camp we’re talking about. We still got ways to go.

Conclusion

Regardless of whether we beat the Cowboys in the Super Bowl or not won’t change the landscape. Dallas for now has 5 Super Bowl titles while Houston has yet to get there. We can only hope we become a dynasty soon.

But a victory over Dallas would definitely be epic because we’ve been the giant little brother with the Cowboys for too long. Sure Dallas hasn’t won since our expansion in 2002, but they could care less of the joke. It’s five Super Bowl rings for Dee-vil and how many for H-Town? Zero?

That’s the kind of stuff that makes you sick. So why not go beat them in the Super Bowl? Why not have Watson throw a touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins and run one from eighty yards? Why not have a JJ Watt pick-six on Prescott? Why not have Toro bodyslam Rowdy in the mascot contest?

If Texas is the best state for football, then how’s about we give the rest of America another reason to show them why? A victory over Dallas in the big game would be huge. We would then ride off into the sunset together.

So in the end, the Cowboys maybe America’s Team. But there will be a day when the Texans are the Lone Star State’s team.
