Houston Texans: My dream Super Bowl matchup for the ages
The Dallas Cowboys
In one episode of King of the Hill, Hank and his friends chat about the Cowboys and their fans giving up on them when they have a bad season or two or five. They then discuss rooting for the Houston Texans, which leads to the idea of the two teams in the Super Bowl. As Hank describes,
"An all-Texas Super Bowl! His will be done."
This matchup works because you have one team who owns the state against a team who is the little brother. It’s almost like the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers in Pennsylvania or the New York Giants and the New York Jets in the Meadowlands.
HOLD ON A MINUTE PARDNER!
Geography is a factor because the car drive between the two is four hours apart. That’s true and I’m still waiting for that train that would get us to both cities in an hour and a half. Yes, it probably doesn’t make sense to other fans because an all-Texas Super Bowl is not what’s right for American sports.

However, we can throw geography out since we know that Dallas is America’s Team. If you think about it, the Dallas Cowboys represent American heroes. Cowboys who fought the Indians and helped make the state of Texas according to myth. You have John Wayne, Gene Autry, Walker, Texas Ranger (if only Chuck Norris were a true cowboy) that inspired us growing up as kids.
Meanwhile, the Houston Texans represent the residents of Texas. I laugh and joke at this because can you imagine a Cowboys fan chatting with someone in another town?
"Where are you from? I’m from Texas. What do they call you? A Texan. Oh! So you’re a Texans fan?"
Imagine the agony of having to deal with that. I’m sure Dallas fans don’t care because they rule the state. Well, I’m going to spare them the trouble of reminding them that Houston was where Texas Independence was won in 1836. Here are other reasons why this Super Bowl is good.
History
It always seems like every two decades, the Cowboys start to get that swagger back. They went to five Super Bowls in the 70’s and won two. Add three more in the 1990’s and that’s five. Now it’s two decades on and Dallas is good again.
Jerry Jones has finally discovered what made the Cowboys great again. Forget marketing, branding, and the stadium. Sure they’re all great, but what made the Dallas Cowboys was winning. You have the richest sports franchise today. Now, why don’t you show everyone why you are rich? To be honest, the Cowboys should’ve won at least two to three more titles between 1996-2016. I hate saying that, but that’s the truth. If the Cowboys are America’s Team, why do they still become arrogant when losing has hit them hard?
It took twenty years and one Tony Romo for Jerry to realize what he needed. He needed good players and talented ones. 2014 was a stepping stone for the Cowboys (Do Not Cry About This To Me Again!) Now with Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot, Dallas suddenly has a team that could win it all again.
There might be a sophomore slump for the Cowboys and their stars. But we can’t overlook that this year’s Super Bowl might feature the Cowboys and the Patriots.
