#3 New Orleans Saints

From 2006-2009, we were inspired by the Saints who resurrected their franchise and city following Hurricane Katrina. In 2009, the Saints finally won the Super Bowl against hometown son Peyton Manning and Drew Brees was the most popular athlete in Louisiana. Having been to Louisiana a lot because of family, I like a matchup between Texas and Louisiana in the Super Bowl. Do I think it’s going to happen? On a scale of 1-10, I’ll give it a fair score of six.

One reason I say six is because of all the matchups I see, this is probably the game that has the best chance of being a blowout. Brees is a surefire hall-of-famer who will, barring any injuries, break the all-time touchdown pass record and hold it until someone else takes over. Yet in spite of his offensive performances and the addition of Adrian Peterson, the faults I feel lie within the defense and the offensive line.

We all loved what JJ Watt did to the Saints O-line in their last meeting. But would fans want to see a repeat performance of that? Probably, but would that matchup etch Brees as a legendary quarterback? Will it etch Watt as a legendary defender? It’s hard to tell for it might be a matchup between the 2000 Baltimore Ravens vs. the 1990 Buffalo Bills. We all know the results to both teams.

Conclusion

I like both teams. I really regret picking the Colts to beat the Saints in Super Bowl 44. But this matchup is the least likely one I would want to see because I don’t want a family feud in my life. Plus, the proximity between the two teams is only a five-hour drive away and it would be a Super Bowl that I think wouldn’t set any ratings records. I think it would be a good game, but I’m thinking bigger here.
