Houston Texans: My dream Super Bowl matchup for the ages
#2 Green Bay Packers
This matchup is something I can see happening. We’re talking J.J. Watt playing against his childhood team. We’re talking about the old sheriff vs. the new sheriff. We’re talking arguably the greatest NFL franchise of all-time against a team looking to make their own identity.
I love this matchup because for me personally, I was a Packers’ fan when the Oilers left. It was Brett Favre and that, for some reason, Green Bay reminded me of Notre Dame football. Silly comparison, I know.
But anyway, the Houston Texans would have a great chance to beat the Packers after being owned by them the past few games. If you can beat Green Bay, Well the Packers are the only team in Green Bay and they’re publicly owned. So I wouldn’t find any satisfaction of beating a team that has that type of proprietorship in place. This is because their fans are just like us and I respect them.
Then there’s Aaron Rodgers himself. After winning a Super Bowl in 2010, he came back the following season and had an MVP year leading the Pack to a 15-1 record. But fault the New York Giants when they upset the Packers at home in the second round. Since then, Rodgers has led the Packers to the NFC Title game twice only to be denied both times.
Rodgers I feel hasn’t passed Brett Favre or Bart Starr on the list of greatest Packer quarterbacks of all-time. So this would be his chance to shine.
But with everything he endured and with other teams starting to shine brighter, will we see a Packers team that is the best in the NFC or simply a team on the cusp of having an era end?
Time will tell in that regard.
Conclusion
Certainly, I do feel that a matchup with Green Bay would be exciting because of a chance for Rodgers to shine and fulfill his destiny as the best quarterback in Green Bay history. I also feel it would be a good chance for JJ Watt to return home to Wisconsin as the Super Bowl hero for the wrong team.
However, I can’t really say this was the dream matchup I had in mind. So Green Bay misses the cut.
