Former Houston Texans nose tackle Vince Wilfork has decided to that 2016 season was his last, officially joining the ranks of many greats that have given their all on the gridiron.

The Houston Texans had already moved on from Vince Wilfork as he was indecisive for the longest in regard to his intentions of returning back to the football field.  But now we know that he’s calling it quits for good and he’s got some lofty second-career ventures on deck.  But enough of about that for now, let’s talk about what he did while he was on the field as a member of the Houston Texans.

But first, here’s his official announcement that he made on his Twitter account to the world:

They way he presented how he went off into the sunset is so Wilfork with as quirky of send-off is this can be.  He walked-off in the coveralls made famous in his participation of when the Houston Texans were featured on HBO’s critically-acclaimed reality series Hard Knocks.  They certainly were a big hit back then and they still have the allure for marketing purposes to this day.

Apparently, he’s signed a deal with Kingsford charcoal to be their front man as he will get into his specialty of grilling.  In fact, he’ll be headline a tailgate up at Gillette Stadium up in Foxboro, Mass. at the New England Patriots’ home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.  That’s were his career all started so it’d make sense he’d have something like that for fans there.

What a career this man has had.  The man has finished his Texans career with 15 tackles (28 assisted) through 31 games having only missed one game — which was last season — while he was here.  He was a force to be reckoned with on the field and he invoked fear into many of his opponents and it was a true pleasure to have him here for just a short while.

I honestly don’t think that he’ll jump back into the game and his decision is final.  But is Wilfork a Hall of Famer.  I certainly think so.  When you think about the dominant nose tackles of this era, his name would certainly come to mind first.  We’ll have to see if he’s first ballot but I’d like to see him out there someday.  He’ll certainly be a part of the Patriots’ Ring of Honor one of these days and it’s quite possible his jersey gets retired.  But we’ll have to see on that.

Wilfork, 35, completes a career of amassing 559 tackles, 16 sacks, four forced fumbles and three interceptions.

I wish you nothing but the best Vince — go Texans.
