#3 Technically, the Astros beat the Rangers in the World Series twice

Strange as this may seem, the Astros have defeated the Rangers in both World Series. No, they didn’t ask to replace the San Francisco Giants or the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League. But what the Giants and Cardinals had in common was that they had former Astros players on their squad.

In 2010, the Giants defeated the Rangers in five games. One of the heroes for them was Aubrey Huff. Y’all may remember him as being a part of the Astros organization in 2009. He was then added to the Giants by 2010 to where they went on a tremendous run to the title.

Game four of the 2010 Fall Classic is best remembered for Madison Bumgarner’s debut of a legendary World Series career. But what few may remember was that Huff played a big role in that game. In the fourth inning, he drilled a two-run homer to give the Giants a 2-0 lead in what would wind up being a 4-0 victory and pretty much a stranglehold on the series.  Take a look down memory lane here:

One year later, we celebrated our former rival Cardinals for beating the Rangers. And two reasons for that were in Octavio Dotel and Lance Berkman.

Dotel was our set up man in the early 2000’s who always came into games around the 8th before a Billy Wagner save in the 9th. So to see him win the World Series was cool. But it was Berkman who gets the love for delivering the biggest game-tying hit in one of the greatest World Series games of all-time. The table was set — it was the 10th inning, two outs, and the tying run at second, this happens:

Conclusion

In a state where the NFL is dominated by the Dallas Cowboys and the NBA is dominated by the San Antonio Spurs, you would think Houston would have a place as a dominated city in any sport. It’s hard to give Houston the title of “best baseball city in Texas” because we haven’t won anything as far as championships. Until either we or the Rangers win a title, the debate is still up for grabs.
