From 2013-16, all was right in the world for the Texas Rangers fan base in retrospect to the Houston Astros. They had a team that could win.  And they had the swagger to prove to us Houstonians that they were better and that was that. But this season, the shift has turned to Houston’s favor.

In one of my earlier posts, I talked about whether or not the decision for the Houston Astros to move to the American League was a good move or not. One of the reasons then-commissioner Bud Selig decided to put the Houston Astros in the American League West was to form a rivalry with the Texas Rangers. Suffice to say, Selig would’ve been proud of what is happening here. To be clear, there was a rivalry between the two teams before the move was made.

People just never paid attention to it until now when it has thoroughly increased. You look on Twitter and see the rivalry between fans of both teams going on as there is trash talking (some cleaner than others) that takes place. You got fans that have argued between Houston vs. Dallas and this is only one area of debate that is going on.
The past few years saw the Houston Astros take their fair share of hits and blows. Basically, it was because of three reasons.

  1. Our terrible play from 2010-2013.
  2. The success of the Rangers as a unit.
  3. The success of the Rangers against the Houston Astros beginning in 2013.

I won’t go into full detail on any of these reasons because we all know about the ordeal and trauma we went through. We had to take hits and be belittled by everyone in the sports world for having the worst team in professional sports. If you look at 2010-16, there’s no question who the better team was. It was the team from Arlington (not Dallas).

As difficult as it was to bear, we had no choice but to agree. We knew we were bad. But we also knew that there would come a point where we would get back to the top even if it took fifty years.
