#8 – April 15, 2017 – Astros 10, Athletics 6

You look back on this game and you ask yourself how in the world did we do this. For some reason, the Houston Astros have an attitude that they can come back from any deficit. Take this game for instance.

We couldn’t get anything going against Sean Manaea and the A’s who led 5-0 after five innings. In years past, the Houston Astros would’ve probably folded and call it a day. But this win sticks out because it would become a recurring theme in some games for this season. The sixth inning sees us score two runs on an Oakland error. The seventh follows with RBIs by Altuve and Alex Bregman.

Down 5-4, Oakland’s misfortunes continued as Josh Reddick scores on a wild pitch to tie it at 5-5. Norichika Aoki follows that with a sac-fly to give Houston the lead before a two-run Springer Dinger put the Houston Astros up 8-5.

McCann and Aoki added RBIs in the ninth and the Astros would go on to win 10-6. Somehow, overcoming five run deficits will be a big part of this list for those wondering.

#7 – May 1, 2017 – Astros 6, Rangers 2

We all know this game as a statement game. The horrors of going through last year and having a 4-17 against the hated Texas Rangers. Sure, we were having ourselves a good stretch and were up on the Rangers? But we’re we ready to avenge last season’s nightmare of losing to the Terrible T from ARLINGTON?

Boy, were we ever. It didn’t look good early on the Rangers had a 2-1 lead including a solo shot by Mike Napoli. So it appeared that once again, Texas had our number. Then came the sixth and a statement from Lance McCullers Jr., who threw the ball behind the head of Napoli leading to a turn of events.

Now, this was not as dramatic as what happened when a Ranger punched a Blue Jay last season. But in that instance, it was a statement that we were no longer that team that the Rangers bullied around a lot last season. And the seventh inning proved it as the young core of Altuve, Correa, and Springer each had RBI. At this rate, if the Astros were to hang on to win the AL West, this moment would be the turning point in the shift of the division. But it would be another game later on that would confirm to us how the suffering to the Rangers would pay off with sweetness.
