The Houston Astros are on pace to being the best team in the American Leauge and potentially all of baseball at 60-29 entering the second half of the year. We all know the most pressing need for the team is adding a third starter who we can trust to give the ball in the playoffs and stay healthy to ease the load off the bullpen.

The Houston Astros are fifth in all of major league baseball in ERA standing at the 3.93 mark. But they are playing in a weak division with the Los Angeles Angels as their closest competitor at 45-47.  And that’s a team that’s been missing the 2016 MVP Mike Trout for 39 of those 92 games that has managed to be in second place, speaking to the level of the rest of the competition we’ve faced.

Other than the Astros, the AL West doesn’t have a single team over .500, whereas the AL East and AL Central have three teams over .500 a piece. Now the Astros are talented enough to get to the best record in all of baseball and are almost a lock to have the best record in the American League.

But with how many injuries the pitching staff has sustained leading to an overworked bullpen, we need someone who can alleviate that workload and also solidify our playoff rotation.

I believe Lance Lynn is that guy. And here are five reasons why.
