It’s finally July 1st and the Houston Rockets are working fast and furiously to get deals done and they’ll be meeting with a player that can provide considerable help today.

Who would that be?  The Houston Rockets are expected to meet with free agent guard/forward Andre Iguodala today in Los Angeles where all free agency meetings are being held.  I certainly like the sound of this!

ESPN was the first to report this in separate story that featured his visit to the San Antonio Spurs.  With the Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry agreeing to a five-year, $201 million deal, this leaves less room to sign key role players like Iggy and has probably been told to start looking elsewhere if he’s expecting to get paid.  But despite my thoughts, the Warriors are confident that they can bring him back on a new, fair and equitable deal for both parties.

Iggy has now won multiple championships with the Warriors and it’s now all about securing his finances for the future for whenever he does happen to hang it up.  As he continues to veer past his prime, he still can provide valuable depth and production off the bench.  Any team that gets him will have an immediate boost to their bench.  Not only that but he can spot start when needed as an injury or two may occur.

So how much will he cost?

Iggy just completed a four-year, $48 million deal worth $12 million per season.  As I talked about with Amir Johnson in a previous post, this signing will take some serious maneuvering as cap space must be cleared for his contract.  You’d have to do a sign-and-trade to clear room and Eric Gordon would be the perfect swap for as their money is just about even IF that’s what Iggy is looking for as far as cash.

But to trade EG for Iggy?  A swap of this year’s 6th Man of the Year candidates?  It’s an interesting idea and I’m sure Gordon wouldn’t mind being jettisoned to a perennial championship contender.  It’s actually an idea I’d tinker with because of all what he brings to a team.  Iggy had the highest win shares (6.9) of 2016-17 among the three candidates including Gordon (3.8) Lou Williams (3.1 average between LA/HOU).

Next: Rockets to meet with Amir Johnson

He’s the ultimate package and the only thing one should worry about is his age but he takes great care of himself so I think we could get some useful years out of him if we can get him on a multi-year deal with the Houston Rockets.

We’ll have to see as I’d be floored if we could land him here in H-Town.

Iguodala, 33, averaged 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists off 52.8 percent shooting from the field and 36.2 percent from three through 76 games off the bench in 2016-17.

Go Rockets.
