The Houston Astros have not had much postseason success in their 55 year history. Which makes the losses all that much more painful when the opportunities have been so few and far between.

While it’s good to see the Houston Astros in the best shape they’ve been in since their 1998 season that looked so promising, that season is a reminder that it’s important to temper your expectations. I’ve been rooting for the Houston Astros for 30 years. And 30 times out of 30, I’ve walked away from another season distressed, disappointed, and heartbroken.

Sports fans are crazy like that. The blind loyalty despite that horrible gut punch you feel when once again, your team loses and that old Brooklyn Dodgers expression “Wait ’til next year” pops into your head, and you’re once more immersed in eternal hope.

Certain years hurt worse than others. The 100 loss seasons aren’t that bad because you went in with no expectations, so you watch the games here or there knowing full well these are basically exhibition matches and try outs for minor leaguers trying to maintain their stay in the show.

But then there are those other years…sigh…those other years that you still remember where you were, how you felt at the moment you thought “This is going to be the year” and then the moment it all got taken away.

This list is about those moments, and hoping they’re forever in the past after 2017.

Without further a due, let’s re-live the misery.
