The Houston Texans situation they have their hands with Duane Brown is a peculiar one considering that neither side has come to the table.

Yes, as you probably know by now, tenured Houston Texans left tackle Duane Brown is unhappy with his contract situation.  As with all NFL contracts, portions are not guaranteed and it’s likely that portion that’s bugging him.  Brown is currently working off a six-year, $53.4 million contract with $22.1 million guaranteed with his $9.65 million 2017 salary not guaranteed.

A considerably-rich contract he signed back in 2012, as time has progressed, Brown has fallen to the middle of the pack in terms of pay among offensive linemen of his caliber.  His salary is ranked 9th among his counter parts in 2017 and 16th as far as the full value of the deal.  Numbers like these have to make Brown feel some type of way and he has decided to make a statement of holding out to see if both sides can come to an agreement on a reworked deal.

But it remains to be seen if it will be done though as the Texans still have to negotiate the contract extension for DeAndre Hopkins.  The franchise typically doesn’t redo contracts with so many years left on them.  With as stone-faced as the Texans have been on this particular issue, there will be no addendum to the unofficial policy that’s been in place.

More from House of Houston

In the meantime, Brown is in Los Angeles working out on his own as he posted a video on his Instagram account with him doing an incessant amount of pull-ups indicating that his strength is still on point.  But what about his personal pride?  Look, I get that he has to right to voice his opinion but with likely no possible deal being done until next off season, he needs to get back with the team so he can get as much rapport as he can with the new guys.

The offensive line has a lot of new pieces to it this season and the captain of unit — Brown — is currently MIA.  For the sake of the team, for the sake of just plain camaraderie, he needs to get back to H-Town stat.  Apparently the $80,400 that he’ll be fined for missing mandatory minicamp is not enough to sway him to come back any sooner.

But you know what?  You bet your bottom dollar Brown will be back before the team heads out to the Greenbrier for training camp in late July.  And that my friends, is when this meaningless standoff will be over.

Come on Duane — do what’s right for the team.

Go Texans.
