The Houston Astros success story out of the baseball field continues to be one of admiration as well as drawing the ire of jaw-drops.

The Houston Astros are well past the first quarter of the season and it appears that this team has no indications of slowing down the robust rate of finding ways to win baseball games.  Not every win looks pretty but at least these guys know how close the deal when things are on the line.  From top to bottom, the pitching and the hitting is solid enough to make inroads to be the absolute best team in the league.

Now I know that particular notion would be up for debate but at least for now, the Houston Astros possess the best record in baseball at 38-16.  It isn’t easy for any team to attain such a mark so we should all be proud as Houston Astros fans.

In addition, there’s some great news in regard to two of our players being honored for the hard work they’ve put out over the course of last month.

According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, Lance McCullers Jr. has been named the AL Pitcher of the Month and Carlos Correa has been named AL Player of the Month:

McCullers’ strong arm whisked him away to a 4-0 record, 37 strikeouts and a 0.99 ERA through 36.3 innings pitched to boot for the month of May.  Not to mention that he was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated with a terrific piece written by Tom Verducci, highlighting the hard-hurler’s largely unstoppable curveball.

As for Correa, had a slow start to season, hitting in the low .200’s but he got his groove back and had a stellar May to do his part to help his team win.

Correa had seven home runs, 26 ribbies with an outstanding 1.130 OPS, ensuring his batting average stayed in the .300s for most of the month.

He’s currently batting .316 after batting .386 in May.

Next: The components of what makes the Astros special

With all of this being said, it would’ve been tough not to nominate any of the Astros for these types of award considering how they’ve been competing over the past few weeks.

They’ve amassed a 23-6 record over the past month and that’s definitely a stark contrast from last season’s performance.

I know this is an award that I know both appreciate but I’m positive they’ve got their eye on a bigger prize — a trip to the World Series.

But it’s only June — we’ll take it easy for now and go one game at a time.

Go Astros.
