Week 8 for the Houston Astros proved to be a near perfect one. Just the thing the team needed before heading out on a 10 game road trip!

After the Cleveland Indians left town following the first game sweeping defeat of the Houston Astros, it seemed as though the morale of the team had been all but extinguished. The path forward was not going to be any easier with both the Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles passing through H-Town.

But as has happened all season, the spacemen picked themselves up by the boot straps and kept going. Not just winning each series, but only losing one game this entire past week!

Here are some of the other highlights from week 8 of the regular season:

Peacock Proves Pivotal!

Brad Peacock moved from the bullpen to the stating rotation to spot Dallas Keuchel for one start on Monday against the Detroit Tigers. In doing so, he was nearly lights out, striking out 8, and only giving up 1 hit and a pair of walks.

Chris Devenski, Will Harris, and Ken Giles then held the Tigers’ lineup down for 4 1/2 innings, not allowing a single hit or run to score.

Peacock has earned another start tonight, Memorial Day evening, against the Minnesota Twins up at Target Field. All indications point to him having another tremendous outing. His ERA is lower than that of even Keuchel, which currently sits at 0.87 on the season!

Centeno Catches Fire!

Meanwhile, Juan Centeno came up from AAA Fresno to spot Brian McCann while he recovered from a concussion. He didn’t disappoint either, working both sides of the ball incredibly well.

According to a tweet sent out from Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, Centeno is the first player in Astros’ franchise history to homer in both of his first two games with the club. Good to know there is a reliable 3rd catcher in case of any other injury to McCann, or even Evan Gattis.

Speaking of El Oso Blanco, he was able to handle the pitching staff incredibly well as the fill in starting catcher this past week. He even got a couple of DH starts to allow Centeno some time behind the plate.

Gattis had a pair of multi hit games this past week. One as a DH on Thursday, and one as a catcher on Friday! The bear continues to post a .270 average on the season, proving even more just how perennial he is to the success of this team!

The Prodigal Battery Mates Return!

Dallas Keuchel and Brian McCann both made their returns on Saturday against the Orioles. In the 5-2 victory, the beard got his 8th victory of the season.

McCann, just as well, drew a couple of walks offensively to help the team win the game. His veteran presence in the lineup has been sorely missed.

Having both of these fellas back is just what the doctor ordered. Literally, since they were cleared by the team medical staff to return in the first place!

Deep in the Minds of Texas!

The Houston Astros will face the Texas Rangers in a weekend series on Friday thru Sunday. This happens after facing 3 games with the Minnesota Twins. Then off to Kansas City to face the Royals for 4 games starting next week. Yet more AL Central foes to go toe to toe with!

The spacemen are the first team in all of baseball to 35 wins. They also still hold onto the best record in the entire league. This should help keep the in-state rivals at bay, mentally.

Forward, the light brigade! GO HOUSTON ASTROS!!!!
