The Houston Astros have done some amazing things this season as we’re well past the midpoint.

The Houston Astros have done some amazing things this season as we’re well past the midpoint.

With tonight’s 1-0 over the Detroit Tigers, this team has the distinction of being the first to 30 wins; and, of course, they remain on the throne of being the franchise that possesses the best record.

But are they the best team?

I know for a fact that the aforementioned notion in definitely up for debate.

But we certainly should be in the conversation, considering how well our talent has meshed together.

And we can say goodbye to our three-game skid, caused by the power and finesse of the Cleveland Indians, a foe we’ve had issues with as of late.

Even though it was three-game losing streak, there was no need to panic as things would eventually turn themselves around.

It didn’t take long either….

Not only the Houston Astros got back on the track but the pitching staff was able to put together a 1-hitter for the first time since July 20, 2013.

Brad Peacock started tonight’s game and was fantastic.

He fanned eight, walked two, allowed tonight’s only hit with Mikie Mahtook doing the honors.

Peacock finished his outing at 70 pitches — I’m positive the staff didn’t want him going too long — through 4.1 innings pitched.

He received a standing ovation when he stepped away as well!

Things were as tight as a frog’s butt as Chris Devenski (2.2 IP), Will Harris (1.0 IP) and Ken Giles (1.0 IP) combined for six strikeouts and no hits.

This truly was the work of our terrific bullpen, which is a unit that I haven’t had a need to worry about this season.

But you know what?

This is where A.J. Hinch earned his money tonight, it was a testament of how much he trusted his guys to get the job done.

This all came about because Dallas Keuchel had to skip a start because of the pinched nerve in his neck.

But as a manager, you have to utilize the resources you have wisely and there’s absolutely nothing I can do to refute the strategy tonight.

In all essences, it worked and we’ve snapped our losing streak.

Now will this mean we will see Peacock more often?

In a reliever role, yes.

But not as a starter, he’s thriving in the bullpen and working his arm further risks him to injury and lower production.

Next: Will the Astros stand pat on the trade market?

So no, I don’t see that happening.

But anyway, let us all bask in the light of such a incredible win that tested the wits of some of our best arms on this roster.

The Astros will do it again tomorrow night against the Tigers to continue their four-game set.

The first pitch is at 7:10 p.m.

Go Astros.
