The Houston Texans are hot on the trail on the free agency front now that the NFL Draft has been settled.

D’Onta Foreman remains the only draft pick not signed yet but that will eventually happen as he is already participating in rookie mini camp to which I’m sure he gets paid separately for.

But as the holes throughout the roster continue to be filled either by draftees and undrafted free agents, the Houston Texans have actually gone on the market to nab a veteran.

Wait what?

They’ve actually signed someone from off the street?

Yes, they have and the guy could be of tremendous help to the offense.

According to a report by the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, the Houston Texans have signed tackle Breno Giacomini to add to their stable on the offensive line.

With Derek Newton ruled out for the 2017 season, the team had to move on reinforcements at the tackle position.

Chris Clark is still under contract but Giacomini has been brought in to provide some competition at the position in training camp.

Julién Davenport will likely develop just fine but it would be foolhardy to throw in there into the wolves without slowly phasing him in to what the Texans do.

Let me tell you, this signing is a Mike Devlin special as Giacomini played under him when he was with New York Jets.

Could he work out?

We’re about to find out.

However, according to Pro Football Focus, Giacomini is a below-average pass blocker like Clark, allowing four sacks and 44.3 grade off 266 snaps on the field in 2016 (which included just five starts).

PFF also notes that in 2015, Giacomini’s last season as a full starter, allowed 54 quarterback pressures compared to 67 in 2016 for Clark.

Overall, Giacomini seems to be more closer than an average pass blocker rather than Clark who is well below-average.

Not to mention that he has been riddled with back injuries through last season.

The 6’7,” 304-pound 31-year-old became available because the Jets cut him after last season.

He also was part of the 2013 Seattle Seahawks, who eventually went on to win Super Bowl XLVIII, so that certainly helps he has that on his resume.

It will be interesting to see how Giacomini pans out but with him teaming up with Devlin again, I’d definitely say that the odds are on the Texans’ favor.

I kind of reminds me when they signed Oday Aboushi to a deal — also away from the Jets — a few season back, he surprisingly played well for the team, eventually moving this off season to the Seahawks.

We’ll have to see.

Go Texans.
