What’s going on guys? I am back after weeks away and I am ready to talk more Houston Texans football.

What’s going on guys? I am back after weeks away and I am ready to talk more Houston Texans football.

Wow!

Let me start off by saying I for one loved this draft by the Houston Texans. I felt coming in to this draft that the Houston Texans needed to be bold and go after the one position that they needed the most, the quarterback position.

I was so ecstatic when I saw that they Houston Texans traded up from the 25th pick to the 12th pick overall. I knew then the Texans were going to finally pull that trigger that us fans all have been dying to see for some time now.

I love the pick. I think Deshaun Watson is our answer and I feel he will be the guy. Calm, cool, and humble. I went back and watched his championship game against Alabama over and over.

At first I was very skeptical on Watson. I felt his frame was small and didn’t like his turnovers.

Now after I watched the highlights, I can say now that he has the tools to succeed.

Personally, he reminds me of a cross between Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick.

Let me explain before everyone bashes me on this.

On the Newton side, he stands tall in the pocket and has great poise and looks down field.

I love his arm strength too.

On the Kaepernick side, I feel Watson has the ability to escape the pocket and beat you with his legs if the pocket collapses.

I really like what I saw on tape.

So with all this being said, we as Texans fans should also brace ourselves just in case Watson does not pan out.

Hold on hold on, I didn’t say Watson wouldn’t pan out but I would just like for the Texans to have some back up plans in case.

I think, in my opinion, he is our quarterback of the future and will do great things for this franchise.

Remember we currently do not have a 2018 1st round pick or 2nd round pick.

That is a lot to give up with the trade of Brock Osweiler and then the trade up to grab Watson.

I have thought of some ways the Texans can recoup some of those picks in 2018.

Now this is all hypothetically speaking but there is a possibility it could also happen.

Let’s begin.

Scenario 1

Let’s take the Tom Savage approach.

Let’s say Savage comes out wheeling and dealing.

Now I for one thinks this is the most unlikeliest of scenarios but for the sake of the article let’s say he does.

We could possibly get a 1st round pick for him.

Look at what Jimmy Garoppolo‘s value is and is rumored to be going for.

The Cleveland Browns were willing to part with a 1st-rounder for him.

Jimmy G has only played a handful of games but in those has games he has looked the part.

Also turn your attention to A.J. McCarron with Cincinnati Bengals.

More from Houston Texans

The Bengals reportedly started telling teams they would want a 1st rounder for him during the draft.

He has played less time than Jimmy G.!

So the point is, if Savage is somewhat decent, there is a possibility that teams that would be interested in his services.

Texans could trade him for a 1st rounder and still have Watson at QB.

At the very least, the Texans can get a 2nd rounder for him.

Also remember we will be getting some compensatory picks back from the free agents we lost this off season as well.

Scenario 2

There will be one free agent quarterback that I’m sure will demand money. That would be none other than drum roll please…..Jimmy Garoppolo!

There is no way that young quarterback will take less money to remain a backup just because he’s playing for the New England Patriots. He wants to start and wants to play.

This is where the Texans come in.  Again, this is all hypothetical but I can’t rule it out because it’s football and a lot can happen.

If Savage is not the guy and If Watson is not the guy, the Texans could make a run after Garoppolo.

Although I think he’ll play at some point in 2017, one can keep teaching and molding Watson while also having Garoppolo as well.

That to me is a pretty good problem to have considering we have had zero help at that position for quite some time

Texans will have the money to sign Jimmy and still have a quarterback that needs time to develop.

Now we would still be without a first- or second-rounder for 2018 but I think I would take the Watson and Garoppolo combo over that if I’m the Texans.

In Conclusion

I’ll reiterate that this is all hypothetical.   These scenarios may never happen and they probably won’t.

I am just saying that one has to have at least have a back up plan if things don’t go accordingly.

I feel that Watson is our guy as I’ve stated previously.

I really like what he does on the field and what he brings to this team.

Leadership qualities, big play ability, and an instinct to just win.

I for one, can not wait to see those Watson to DeAndre Hopkins passes!

I think it’s going to be a great year for the Texans.

I’m out guys — go Texans.
