It’s amazing how time has passed for the Houston Texans as we’re exactly two weeks away from the NFL Draft.

It’s amazing how time has passed for the Houston Texans as we’re exactly two weeks away from the NFL Draft.

There are a lot of needs that this team needs to fill as there have been holes left that have created some vacancies at some positions that were solid last year.

Here’s a recap of the guys that we’ve lost to free agency thus far:

A.J. Bouye was the first of the casualties signing a five-year, $65 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

John Simon, a linebacker that had improved his game tremendously over time and had become a reliable piece, signed a three-year, $17 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

Safety Quintin Demps also was able to land a deal with the Chicago Bears for three-years, $13.5 million with $5 million guaranteed in the first season. Demps had a career-high six interceptions for 2016.

Even safety-special teams specialist Don Jones, who was signed by the Texans later in the 2016 season, bolted for the San Francisco 49ers and agreed to a two-year deal.

Not to mention that the Texans re-signed Ryan Griffin to a three-year, $9 million deal.

That’s certainly a lot of holes to fill and that means the Texans are going to use the draft to fill them.

Should they draft quarterback early? Build the offensive line? Add more depth to the defensive line?

All are going to be options on the table.

And here’s another option on the table — according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, the Houston Texans plan to work out Alabama tackle Cam Robinson next week.

Considered on the draft’s best talents at the position, this 6’6,” 322-pound mound of muscle is up for grabs in the draft.

He is projected to go early — as in the first-round — so the Texans have an important decision to make on whether or not to take him early.

In all essence, I would because you can still get a talented quarterback in a later round but I’m sure all of the elite talent will be gone by then.

The Houston Texans need another tackle on the offensive line and Robinson is one of those guys that you could plug in and he’d provide an immediate impact.

Besides, he played for the Alabama, which in my opinion, is a program that puts you as close as one can get to simulate the NFL experience.

But you don’t have to take my word for it, here’s what some experts had to say:

Charlie Campbell of Walter Football:

"“Overall, Robinson’s pass protection was improved in 2016. His bending at the knee looked improved, his feet were better, and he was quicker in his drop. Sources say that Robinson lost 10-15 pounds prior to the season and that helped him in pass blocking. Robinson was still very good in the ground game. He lacks consistency with his bending and balance, hence he isn’t considered to be an elite, “top of the draft tackle” prospect.”"

Campbell also mentions that this is a weak draft for offensive tackles and it’s possible that he could go in the Top 25 of draft picks.

SportsTalk 790’s and NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:

"“Outstanding, proportional frame with combination of thickness and athleticism. Fires into his target with a forceful pop generating early power and push. Can uproot defender and turn him out of hole as a drive blocker …  Balance issues a concern. Struggles with active, high-motor defenders. At times he ducks head into his run blocks, losing sight of a moving target. Narrow in-line power base due to lack of bend and excessive leaning.”"

Despite his weaknesses, he’s the best tackle that will be available in the draft and we need all of the help that we can get.

Would I draft him?

Without question but it remains to be seen what the Texans decide to do with the their first-rounder.

Will they trade up?  It’s possible.

We’ll have to see so fasten your seat belts — it’s about to be a hell of ride come April 27th.

Go Texans.
