Spring Training certainly offered us a opportunity to catch a glimpse of our slightly new-look Houston Astros roster.

Although many were away participating in the World Baseball Championship series, our guys had a chance to showcase their talents, wherever that may have been.

Although Spring Training is not the end-all, be-all in terms of future seasonal performance, it goes to show that this team has enough firepower and enough arms to be a powerhouse in the AL West.

As you probably know by now, this is the season the Astros were predicted to win the World Series which was coined by Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated.

Yes, that awesome cover of George Springer in a throwback, rainbow Astros uniform certainly made us all proud that someone in the national sports media was thinking we’re for real.

As you know, Jeff Luhnow does things a bit differently and builds his baseball teams with heavy use of analytic data.

I took a bit but the Astros have been able to conjure up 170 wins over the past two seasons, more than the previous three seasons combined.

This team is designed to be quite methodical, ensuring that timely hitting and intellectual, gritty defense is played out on the field.

It didn’t exactly pan out like that every game last season but that seemed to still be the strategy.

But it’s a new year with new beginnings and there are certainly some new guys to boot.
