In Conclusion: Hinch Should Be Cautious with the DH Spot!

Earlier this month, the skip said in an interview with Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle that the DH role may have a little more spontaneity than with other teams. Here is an interesting quote from that article:

"“I think what can change that is how the DH plays. Obviously the performances will change. But McCann will catch a majority of the games, Gattis will catch the balance of them and then as the schedule permits and the health permits, then we’ll adjust accordingly.”"

It’s no secret that Evan Gattis is the one that needs playing time the most, with Beltran and McCann snagging a good bit of his at-bats this upcoming season at both catcher and DH. However, there are still ways that even El Oso Blanco can get around 400-450 AB’s and still belt out way over 25 bombs. Hey may even surpass his 32 from last year!

Because of all of this, the core of young players in Springer, Bregman, Altuve and Correa should avoid being put there in 2017. If they need a day of rest, Hinch just needs to bite the bullet and put them on the bench.

Next: What To Make Of Brian McCann?

It pains me saying that, since we all love them. But the bench is not just for players like Marisnick, Gonzalez and Gattis. In fact, many would argue that the versatility of those three players could make them everyday starters on other teams.

But let’s not entertain the idea of ANY current position player not being apart of the Houston Astros right now. Instead, let us cheer them all on to a much needed World Series title.

GO HOUSTON ASTROS!!!!
