Houston Rockets Report: Team Interested In Jose Calderon

With the way things were going up to the deadline, I thought — for a milli-second — that the Rockets were going to silent this time around.
Was I wrong!
Not only were they far from silent but Daryl Morey was bolster our depth and unload two non-rotational players to clear out cap space.
The fact that he was able to trade away Corey Brewer is a notable mention as well because although he has value, it’s not high.
But Brewer, as expected, was traded with a first-rounder to make the deal whole and for the franchise to pick up Sweet Lou.
His debut was terrific against the New Orleans Pelicans Thursday night, scoring 27 points in 25 minutes with seven threes to boot.
But with the money that’s now available after unloading K.J. McDaniels and Tyler Ennis, the Rockets are looking to be buyers on the market for players that have been released.
According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Rockets do have interest in guard Jose Calderon:

This news comes as a bit of a surprise as the Rockets already have a glut of guards on the roster.
I’m not sure what Morey is thinking but there is some method to his madness as he is an excellent shooter that would add to the team’s repertoire.
As Stein notes, the Golden State Warriors are also interested in the gunslinger if he should be released by the Los Angeles Lakers, which could be likely.

The Lakers are in full rebuild-mode now with Magic Johnson in charge, stocking up on draft picks and shedding as much unneeded salary as possible.
They probably don’t want to win too many more games either so it increases their chances of getting a lottery pick.
But if Morey wants to go out and get another to add, I’m for it, I’m sure Mike D’Antoni has some way of ensuring that he has a way to fit into his heralded offense.
We’ll have to see what the end game is to this situation.
Calderon, 35, is averaging 3.3 points, 2.1 assists with a shooting line of .416/.353/1.000 (12.2 MPG) through 24 games (11 starts) this season.
