Houston Texans Report: Tony Romo Has H-Town On His ‘Wish List’
Although the NFL off season isn’t official just yet, there’s still plenty of work to do for teams like the Houston Texans to shape up their upcoming season.
Although the NFL off season isn’t official just yet, there’s still plenty of work to do for teams like the Houston Texans to shape up their upcoming season.
Time and again — throughout the short-lived history of this franchise — the Houston Texans have continued to struggle at getting right one of the most important positions on the field.
Yes, you know what I’m going to say.
The QUARTERBACK position.
Yes, we had Matt Schaub and we all can make a case that he was the best QB we’ve ever had, despite his shortcomings.
But there was a period where Schaub was playing lights out and this team was riding on an all-time high.
Those 2011-12 season were the best I’ve seen where things were complete and we had our best chance to contend at that moment.
As much as I love Kevin Walter, he was a key focal point in our offense then and compared to the immense amount of talent we have now, it’s not even close.
We did more with less, which continues to be the mantra for this organization.
Fast-forwarding to the present, the franchise went out and got their QB in Brock Osweiler this past off season with great promise.
But has been nothing but underwhelming disappointment and he is for sure on his way out, whether it be this season or the next.
This team has all the necessary parts and it just needs a steady, confident hand to keep it all together.
One veteran that we all know that could be one of the hottest trade affinities for the season is none other than Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys.
It’s clear that Dak Prescott is their quarterback of the future with his success and it’s time for Romo to hit the road.
The latest in a report from Jason La Confora of CBS Sports is that Romo has the Houston Texans on his “wish list” as far as potential destinations.
He also has the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs pegged as potential landing spots.
He also notes that Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones will listen to offers once he invites his “son” over for dinner and talk turkey.
Or in other words, an off season meeting.
The Texans will have about $25.5 million in cap space for 2017 and could essentially afford Romo’s $16M per salary that was restructured back in 2015.
The would be even more money available had we not committed $18 million to Osweiler for this season.
As much as I’d love for Romo to be here, there would have to be some tough decisions in regard to who we have to cut in order bring him in.

He is as healthy as he’s ever been in his career and I’d definitely like to rent him out for a short while.
Not to mention it will likely cost the franchise a first-round pick just to get him.
A.J. Bouye is due for a big pay day and a contract extension is in the works for DeAndre Hopkins.
But if the Texans somehow pull this one off, it will make this Texans’ quite happy.
They just better rebuild that offensive line through free agency and the draft because we all know how fragile Romo is.
We’ll see how this shakes out.
Go Texans.
