In Conclusion: You’re looking at the Houston Astros’ catching core for the next two seasons. Possibly, even for a third.

I’ve collected my fair share of knowledge and admiration for both of these players over the years. From debunking myths on Evan Gattis to showing exactly what the Brian McCann trade means, many think that what I have to say is bold.

My above conclusion may sound like a very bold prediction to some. Especially, since recent rumors would suggest that Jeff Lunhow may be trying to add Matt Wieters via another free agent signing. That would, more than likely, put Gattis in jeopardy. While a dark horse long shot, nothing must be taken lightly.

In spite of this, confidence remains that next year’s catching core will be the duo of the two former Braves, now turned Houston Astros. McCann has a 2019 club option that can be picked up, and Gattis is a free agent in the same year.

If the organization plays it’s cards right, and doesn’t mess this up, fans can be seeing these bearded bash brothers behind the dish for 3 more seasons, including the upcoming one. Despite what critics may think of these two, that idea is not very far fetched.

All of this will hinge on what the catchers down in the minor league system do. Or even, if any of them will still be around and not traded. Max Stassi is out of options, and a long shot to make the big league club.

Rodgers and Stubbs are the ones to watch. Stubbs got an invite to Spring Training, and Rodgers is developing at Quad Cities. Those two look to be a part of the catching core soon enough.

For now, we get to enjoy Brian McCann and Evan Gattis defending the house of Minute Maid and elsewhere. Not to mention, watching them go all Thor’s hammer with their respective bats!
