3. Brian McCann brings the much needed veteran experience.

For a Houston Astros club in desperate need of leadership, veteran players were sought hard this off season. Josh Reddick and Carlos Beltran were signed before the New Year.

And that’s also why Brian McCann was brought into the fray this past November via a trade.

On the verge of turning 33, and entering his 13th season in the majors, the cleverly named BMac has been there and done that so many times already. His 7 All-Star appearances and 5 silver slugger awards are proof of that.

There is only one thing missing from his arsenal: A World Series Championship and ring. Something he desperately wants, and also, very much deserves.

That was the thing that drew him the most to Houston. Seeing the lineup from top to bottom allowed for him to waive his no-trade clause with the New York Yankees. Gary Sanchez breaking out with the boys in pinstripe also contributed to the circumstances being what they became.

Advantage: The Houston Astros on that one.

Already, McCann has studied videos of the current pitching staff. At Fan Fest, he made a mention that the arms were young and spontaneous. For him personally, he anticipates great things from both the rotation and the bullpen.
