Looking to be a top catching duo, burly slugging catchers for the Houston Astros, Brian McCann and Evan Gattis give this team the best chance at a World Series ring.

The Houston Astros acquired Brian McCann in November, and Evan Gattis is already expected to back him up. Both will share some DH time with Carlos Beltran. With this formula, offensive production is what the spacemen are about to get a lot of from this catching duo.

And this was something desperately needed for a competing team.

This move sent a clear signal that the organization wanted more from the bats of their backstops. Otherwise, former Astro turned Twin, Jason Castro, would have been signed as a free agent. He is a supposed elite pitch framer, after all. At least, some analysts would claim as such.

But alas, that never came to be. And there was, of course, good reason for that.

With the McCann/Gattis combo, it could very well be a juggernaut of runs being driven in for the 2017 season. The two catchers are reunited. For the fans everywhere in Houston, that should feel so good.

I recently did an assessment of the importance of catchers on any given roster in my Evan Gattis fan blog The White Bear Chronicles. There are a number of reasons as to why these two are now, and always will be, among the best catching pairing in the entire league.
