In Conclusion: Evan Gattis needs to, and should, remain with the Houston Astros. At the very least, until he is a free agent in 2019!

I hate to break it to you Houston Astros fans, but Evan Gattis has a ton more value ON this team than he does off of it.

Additionally, the market for starting pitcher continues to shrink out of existence. So it is becoming more and more clear everyday that the front office trusts the rotation and bullpen they already have.

Dallas Keuchel has begun throwing and having some much needed success in his off season regiment. Lance McCullers looks to follow suit in both of these pitchers having bounce back seasons.

But I digress back to Gattis. He is needed at backup catcher to platoon with McCann. While BMac will get a majority of starts behind the plate, that majority will still be slim. There is even a growing possibility of a 50/50 platoon split.

The temptation to covet other players is still there. But fans will need to slow their roll on that one. No contending teams have what it takes to make the proper offer, nor do any of them really need to.

Plus, let’s be fair to El Oso Blanco. He has more than earned the right to stay in Houston, and actually wants to stay here. When he is a free agent in 2019, and IF he decides to leave the Houston Astros, it will be HIS decision to make, and a more viably acceptable move. Evan Gattis just may decide to re-sign with the team, even in free agency.

For now, certain decision makers just need to keep him in place, give him the opportunities and make it happen. The ball is in the court of team management now.

Your moves, A.J. Hinch, Jeff Lunhow and Jim Crane!
