Houston Texans’ Tidbits:
Whitney Mercilus: Mercilus, who is having an incredible season, injured his back in practice yesterday and missed today’s as a result. He has now been ruled QUESTIONABLE for Sunday’s game. Although he’s expected to give it go, there is a now a slight chance that he may not be available. Max Bullough, Joel Heath or Brian Peters may have to fill-in if he can’t go. He has 48 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one pass deflection and one forced fumble in 2016 so far.
C.J. Fiedorowicz: The burgeoning tight end suffered a concussion amid Sunday’s 22-17 win over the Colts in Indianapolis. He hasn’t practiced all week and he has been ruled OUT as a result. Fiedorowicz has caught 48 balls for 505 yards and three touchdowns in 2016. He has had 3+ catches per game since Week 4. I’d expect rookie TE Stephen Anderson to fill-in for him as he’s going through the NFL’s mandatory concussion protocol.
John Simon: Simon has been dealing with a chest injury for quite some time but his latest ding caused him to exit the game against the Raiders nearly a month ago. He did not return. He hasn’t practiced all week and has already been ruled OUT for Sunday. Bill O’Brien has signaled that he’ll be out for awhile. I’d expect Akeem Dent to start in his place for the time being.
Tyler Ervin: Ervin — the team’s lead kick returner — took a hard hit to the ribs early in the first half of Week 12’s game against the Oakland Raiders. He exited the game and did not return. He has started to practice once again — albeit limited — this week but his status for this week remains uncertain. With Braxton Miller now on the injured reserve list, expect Will Fuller and 2015 fifth-rounder Keith Mumphery to handle the returns for now.
And here’s the injury report for the Jacksonville Jaguars:
LT Kelvin Beachum, Knee
QB Blake Bortles, Right Shoulder
SS Johnathan Cyprien, Shoulder
DE Dante Fowler, Jr. Shoulder
WR Allen Hurns, Hamstring
RB Chris Ivory, Hamstring
LB Myles Jack, Illness
DT Abry Jones, Knee
TE Ben Koyack, Knee
C Brandon Linder, Ankle
DE Yannick Ngakoue, Ankle
MLB Paul Posluszny, Neck/Shoulder
OG Chris Reed, Toe
RB Denard Robinson, Ankle
DB Peyton Thompson, Ankle
WR Shane Wynn, Hamstring
Hurns, Reed and Robinson are OUT for Sunday. Wynn is QUESTIONABLE. Beachum, Bortles, Cyprien, Fowler, Ivory, Jack, Jones, Koyack, Linder, Ngakoue, Posluszny and Thompson are PROBABLE.

Jacksonville Jaguars Tidbits:
Allen Hurns: It hasn’t been an easy road for the wide receiver that had a breakthrough season in 2015. Just three weeks ago, he was carried out on a stretcher because of a concussion he suffered from. He now is battling a hamstring injury and has missed two games as a result. For guy that caught 64 passes for 1,031 yards in 2015, he only has 35 receptions for 477 yards on the season thus far. He has been ruled OUT for Sunday and third-year receiver Marqise Lee will take over the reins for now.
The Houston Texans are back at home to take on the Jaguars at NRG Stadium this Sunday.
Kickoff is scheduled for noon CST.
The game will be televised on CBS and broadcast on 610 SportsRadio AM/100.3 FM (KILT) & ESPN Deportes 1180 (KGOL) in Spanish.
