Houston Astros: How Will Josh Reddick Fit With The Team?
The Houston Astros haven’t made a splash this off season, they’ve created a wave!
The Houston Astros haven’t made a splash this off season, they’ve created a wave!
Who am I talking about?
I’m talking about the signings of Charlie Morton, Brian McCann and last but not least Josh Reddick.
Yes, the World Series is over and the Houston Astros are hot to trot in light of hopefully an eventful off season in terms of improving this baseball team.
As I watched the Chicago Cubs secure their first championship in 108 years, I thought to myself as far as when it’d be OUR turn.
I know it’s coming but will it be soon?
That remains to be seen.
But, at the moment, the Astros are extremely committed to trot out a winner this upcoming season.
When I heard about the details of the latter, I nearly spit out the bottle of water I was drinking and my pulse started race rapidly starting to dream about what this team will be like as a contender.
It’s a great feeling, isn’t it?
Let’s hope we get there.
The Astros made incredible strides to move their pieces on the chess board to ensure they had the upper hand in the deals they made.
As of right now, the Astros are the talk of the town catching every expert by surprise because we all knew that the franchise “talks” a good game but hasn’t put their money where their mouth is in quite some time.
I can definitely attest to the aforementioned since the Jim Crane/Jeff Luhnow tandem became the operating arm for the club.
I’m proud, I’m happy and I can’t wait until 2017.
But anyway, this was the tweet that drove my emotion into overdrive:
And the rest is history.
I recall all those moments when the Astros would face the Oakland A’s and wonder what it’d be like to have a guy like Reddick in our outfield.
I didn’t think it was too far-fetched of possibility as he kept re-upping for escalating one-year deals over the past four seasons with him earning $6.575 million in 2016 with the A’s/Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now he’s secured a four-year deal with the Astros worth $52 million which would put him at $13 million per season.

He just doubled his pay — and then some — as the A’s do what they normally execute with maturing players — getting rid of them.
Reddick’s notable headiness, his ability to find innovative ways to hit the ball and defend the outfield like none other is certainly the reason why he’s here.
I’d imagine Reddick will immediately be placed in his natural position of right field while George Springer will move to center field, where has played most of his early career.
That is, of course, contingent on if the Astros don’t decide to deal him as he’d valuable chip in a future trade.
He’s a valuable chip on the table that a lot of teams want and could be the key to open the door to guys like Chris Sale and Chris Archer.
It’s no secret that we need to beef up our starting pitching a bit and Springer would integral to such a notion that I mentioned.

But this is all speculation and who knows what Luhnow has up sleeve for his next move.
All I know is that this is the most excited that I’ve been since the Astros started to slightly open the flood gates for our prospects to catch a glimpse of what they had.
Carlos Correa, Preston Tucker, Springer…you know what I ‘m talking about.
With that being said, let’s hope this season is eventful because us fans are all banking on it!
Reddick, 29, slashed .277/.337/.392 with a .730 OPS through 115 games and 439 plate appearances with the A’s and Dodgers in 2016.
Let’s hope he doesn’t randomly smash his fingers in hotel room doors regularly.
Go Astros!
