The Houston Rockets have now sailed through 10 games in the season and have netted a 6-4 record so far.

Let’s just continue to hope that the upward trend continues and that these guys don’t crest this early into the season.

But you know what?

I don’t think that will likely happen and we’ll continue to be wowed by the leaps and bounds this team is making.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m not trying to crown the Houston Rockets as your 2016 World Champions just yet but at least were starting to make strides in that direction.

We still may need another impact player or two — not necessarily a superstar — to ensure this team has enough juice to get over the hump.

But something peculiar has happened…

For the first time since the 2012-13 season, Donatas Motiejunas is not currently a part of this roster.

And that’s a shame as well because he’s exactly what you’d want in a player in terms of attitude and work ethic.

But D-Mo is a restricted free agent this season and wants to capitalize on the windfall of cash the league has received.

He also has new representation in former NBA standout B.J. Armstrong negotiating his salary as well.

Yes, B.J. Armstrong is an agent ya’ll.

And I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a good thing either…

D-Mo was initially given a qualifying offer of $4.4 million to which he allowed the Oct. 1st deadline to pass after not accepting.

But the Houston Rockets recently sweetened the pot two weeks ago, offering him multi-year deal worth $7 million a season — with only this season being guaranteed — with incentives to bump it up to $8 million per if he meets the requirements.

He now has until Nov. 23rd to decide if he wants to accept.

Otherwise, he can still be signed but the Rockets would be unable to trade him which could have a significant impact on his value.

In addition, another option is that he is looking to play overseas once again but I’d imagine that would be least desirable as the NBA is the cream of the crop in terms of where to showcase one’s skills and in terms of earning potential.

Things have gotten dicey for D-Mo amid a trade that was vetoed by the Detroit Pistons because of the ongoing concerns in regard to the health of his back.

Although D-Mo finished last season with considerable production for the team, others will continue to want to low-ball him because of the back issues.

With his RFA status, the Rockets have the right to match any offer another team makes on his services.

But in reality, the club is offering him a pretty sweet deal but I understand that he wants to maximize his earnings now as he’s not getting any younger.

Here’s what I think.

Take the deal D-Mo.

I know that’s not exactly what you want but work your way into a raise.

In fact, you can even bet on yourself — take a contract that’s not as lengthy and grab the big bucks once you’re able to prove that you can handle a full season without getting hurt.

I’ve met you before and you seem like the genuine-article — a good person with a huge heart that is as red as the uniform that you’ve donned over the years.

Take the deal D-Mo — that way you can prove all the naysayers wrong and collect a nice paycheck to cash at the bank.

There is a spot for your in this new system installed by Mike D’Antoni and I’m sure we’d all love to see you a part of it.

Now’s the time — hope to see you soon man.

Go Rockets.
