The Houston Astros need to put all eyes one of the most-talented and youngest players to hit the free agent market.

The Houston Astros need to put all eyes on one of the most-talented and youngest players to hit the free agent market.

Who am I talking about?

I’m taking about outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

Yes, the World Series is over and the Houston Astros are hot to trot in light of hopefully an eventful off season in terms of improving this baseball team.

As I watched the Chicago Cubs secure their first championship in 108 years, I thought to myself as far as when it’d be OUR turn.

I know it’s coming but will it be soon?

That remains to be seen.

But the Houston Astros can start to get back in our good graces by launching serious talks with the multi-faceted slugger.

Yesterday, as expected, the two-time All-Star made it official by opting out of his three-year, $75 million contract with the New York Mets.

More from House of Houston

Cespedes feels that he could command more money than what the Mets were paying him so this was a natural move that any business-savvy man would make.

He’s believed to be seeking a multi-year deal worth north of $100 million+ and there’s no doubt there will be a team that will pay him that much.

The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers will likely be putting out a bid for his services.

Now Jeff Luhnow — hear me out here…

I know he’s going to be expensive but we need a player that’s going to transcend this roster into the next echelon of Astros baseball.

He’s one of the players that comes by once in a lifetime and with the talented core of players that we already have, he’d fit in nicely.

We appreciate that you’ve made a few moves to set the table — you’ve claimed Nori Aoki off waivers, Evan Gattis is now re-upped for $5.2 million while you’ve flipped Pat Neshek for a player to be named or cash.

I appreciate those moves.

But it’s time to start causing a ruckus with the big boys.

I’m positive that this can be done but it’s a matter of going out and executing the game plan.

Yes, I’m aware that George Springer is eligible for arbitration with his Super Two status and it’s time to pay him but somehow we’ve got to make those two objectives go hand-in-hand.

The plan is simple.

COUGH up the CASH!

Let him know that you’re serious about acquiring him — you’ll have some wrangling to do with Jay-Z and his sports agency in Roc Nation but it can be done.

I could just imagine having a hot bat with a hell of a defensive presence in the outfield.

I can see it now — Cespedes, Springer and Aoki in the outfield.

That’s a unit that would be hard to reckon with in any right!

Next: FIVE Offseason Moves The Houston Astros Should Make

We’re already in a promising era of Houston Astros baseball but it’s time to show the world that we’re serious about winning a championship and acquiring him would be an excellent start.

I know you’ll have to talk to Jim Crane about such a venture — and he’ll be vehemently reluctant to such an idea — but you’ve got to convince him that this is a sound strategy to put us back on the map again.

I hope you’re listening Jeff because you’d make a lot of Astros’ fans like myself extremely happy if this move were made.

But who am I kidding?

It’s NOT going happen and we’ll just have to settle for whomever you acquire after you’ve completed your bargain-basement hunting this off season.

Don’t get me wrong — what you’ve done over the past few seasons is nothing short of amazing but the time is now to take it up a notch.

I’m positive that you can.

Cespedes, 31, hit .280/.354/.530 with an .884 OPS through 132 games and 543 plate appearances in 2016.

Go Astros.
