Jeff Passan (Yahoo Sports) reports the Astros will receive Guadalupe Chavez in return for Feldman.
Trading away Scott Feldman was a smart move by GM Jeff Luhnow. The 33-year old was on the last year of his deal and receiving any sort of prospect in return for the impending free agent was impressive.
In Chavez, the Astros receive a lottery ticket, much like they received in trades with the Marlins and Tigers (Martes and Paulino). Chavez is a 18-year old with the GCL Blue Jays and has a 1.69 ERA in 6 starts with them this season. He was ranked #20 on the midseason update of MLB.com’s top 30 Blue Jays prospects.
Feldman had a 2.90 ERA with the Astros this season, though was regulated to bullpen duty outside of five starts this season. Used as a long reliever, Feldman didn’t have much value to the Astros and they have plenty of options to replace him. Expect either Joe Musgrove or James Hoyt to take his spot in the pen.
