Stephen Anderson – TE – California

6’2” – 230

As we mentioned in our Mock draft leading up to the draft, Stephen Anderson very likely would have been the Texans 6th round pick had they still had the pick available and not traded it.  Instead the Texans held their breath and hoped that Anderson would make it all the way through.

Anderson, who the Texans brought in for a visit prior to the draft, had been working out here in the Houston area in the offseason and the Texans had clear interest in him.  The Texans did not draft a tight end, which seems to be a clear area of need given the poor performance of C.J. Fiedorowicz and Ryan Griffin struggling to stay healthy.  However the Texans do want to add a dynamic pass catching threat at the position.

Stephen Anderson is basically a slightly bulked up WR much like the Redskins Jordan Reed who lit up the league last season.  He has an excellent chance to make the team as the 3rd TE with a chance to make an impact on the field and be a nice complementary player that fits with the Texans need for speed.
