Sometimes you just need to spew about your team. Twitter can be great for that in spurts, but I don’t want to send out a million and a half 140 character mini-spews. Instead, I’m just going to spew here.

Now, this isn’t a rant. It’s a spew. There’s some good and plenty bad. Let’s spew.

Note: I’m really loving this “spew” word.

Your Houston Astros have been terribly disappointing. Our Houston Astros have not given us much to cheer about with just six wins through 19 games.

Sure, Colby Rasmus still thinks we’re in October and Carlos Correa had a ridonkidonk series against the New York Yankees. Tyler White was doing #TheGreatWhite type things, while Jose Altuve may decide this year to go 20/60.

Other than that though, this team has made it miserable for us. Our pitchers throw pitches that either end up out of the strikezone or in the stands and a reliever that we paid a hefty price for, is…well…not so good right now.

I don’t really want to talk about Ken Giles right now. Ok, I kinda do…In short, I think he’ll turn it around, but it hasn’t been pretty to watch. His fastballs are fast, but lack movement. That slider though…keep using it! The trade will work out just fine in the long-run me thinks.

Another Jeff Luhnow tradee, Carlos Gomez, well he’s just something else. It’s a miracle he hasn’t pulled an oblique of some sort the way he’s been whiffing on pitches this season. He’s in as big of a slump as you can possibly be in…unless you’re Jason Castro.

I said it before the season and I’ll say it again…the Astros need Jonathan Lucroy. No ifs ands buts fors or anything else. We need a catcher that can hit (and play defense). While we wait for that, they’ll experiment with Evan Gattis behind the dish. I’m indifferent about the move. We don’t have anyone that can do both, so sacrificing defense for offense is something I’m whatever about.

Going around the diamond, Luis Valbuena has forgotten his home run bat. That’s ok though, his .352 OBP is pretty nice. Sprinkle in a few home runs and I’d be ok with his production.

Carlos Correa is in some sort of “slump” or whatever you want to call it. He’s been taking A LOT of hittable pitches and swinging at some doozies. The Yankees series was nice, but since then he hasn’t cleared the fence. And let’s not talk about his defense. I’m convinced the future Astros Hall of Famer ends up at third base within a year or two.

Jose Altuve and George Springer are so fun to watch. Love you guys! AND KEEP COLBY RASMUS’ CALENDAR ON OCTOBER CUZ OMG!!!

Chris Devenski is another bright spot through 19 games. I’m not 100 percent sold on him being a good starter, but I’m getting ready to insert him in the rotation over Doug Fister on my video game franchise mode. Wonder how close A.J. Hinch is to doing the same.

Lance McCullers Jr. will help out the rotation as well. Who leaves between Scott Feldman, Mike Fiers and Fister?!? Do two leave with Devenski joining as well?

That’s about all the good there is to talk about the Astros, unless you want to throw proper props to Luke Gregerson and Will Harris. Good work boys!

Where were we with the bad? Right…Collin McHugh, what happened?!? A .392 BAA is going to get you nowhere, except in the loss column. Let’s try to have repeat performances of your game against the Royals. That was nice.

To put the spew all in a nutshell, the Astros are better than their record. They’re pressing and it’s showing. The effort is there – unlike the other team that plays a few minute walk from Minute Maid Park – it’s just a bit too much. They need to let things come to them. Take what’s given to you, don’t be greedy.

We’ll be fine in the long run, I believe it. We may not push 100 wins, but I think we’ll be at 90 or close to it when it’s all said and done.

It’s a long season folks, just bare with ’em.

Spew over for now…there will be plenty more on the Twittersphere!
