First Round – Pick #22

Josh Doctson – WR – TCU

6’3” – 195

At #22, depending on how the draft unfolds, trading back in the 1st may very well be the Texans best option if they can pick up an extra 3rd round pick for example.  If they fail to do so, the Texans should take either the best wide receiver or the best defensive end on the board.

If the top 3 wide receivers are all still on the board at #22, which is very possible, the Texans should take the best one and that is Josh Doctson.  Lequan Treadwell has gotten the most talk of being the top WR, but he has below average speed for the position and the Texans have specifically been talking about needing to get faster and more athletic on both sides of the ball.

Although it’s believed that the Texans want a slot WR, when the best WR is on the board and you need WR, you take him.  Doctson has the best hands, a 4.50 40 yard dash, good length and is the best in this draft class at high pointing the ball and going up to get it against the defender.  You know who else is excellent at that? DeAndre Hopkins.  You know what’s wrong with having another WR with a similar skill set as Hopkins?  Nothing, nothing at all.  In fact it would be a huge plus.

Yes, the Texans drafted a long WR last year in Jaelen Strong, who we like and the Texans like, and there is no reason why the Texans can’t play with 3 WR’s all over 6’2”.

Alternate options –

DE/DT Jarran Reed (Alabama), DE/DT A’Shawn Robinson (Alabama), WR Corey Coleman (Baylor)
