Jonathan Grimes, 26, played in 14 games, finishing with 282 rushing yards (5.0 ypc) and 26 catches for 173 receiving yards during the 2015 season.
The former undrafted free agent out of William & Mary has always shown promise when given a chance in Houston. Grimes is a shifty back, capable of racking up yards on the ground and catching footballs out of the backfield. He has a similar skillset to that of Lamar Miller, which means the Texans are likely to give him rock when Miller sits.
Signing Grimes was a great move by the Texans front office. It’s just a one-year deal worth $700,000, according to John McClain (Houston Chronicle). The Texans opted to let him become an unrestricted free agent and it appears the market wasn’t as strong as he expected, much to the benefit of the Texans.
With Jonathan Grimes back on board, he’ll likely spell Miller on several occasions. Alfred Blue and Akeem Hunt also figure to remain on the roster.
