I’m proud Houston Texans’ fans.

You should be proud as well!

In stately fashion, the Texans were able to win the AFC South Division and punch their ticket for the postseason for the first time in the last two seasons.

That’s quite a remarkable turnaround considering where we were just seven games in the season.

After two multi-point losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins, the Texans were staring at a 2-5 record and likely a disappointing season.

I’ll be the first to admit to you that I was actually considering that the Texans consider letting Bill O’Brien go as well as Romeo Crennel, a total cleaning of house along with Rick Smith.

I was frustrated, we were all frustrated and we were seeking some restitution for such a farce of a season that we had witnessed thus far.

But then came the bye week and the coaching staff got back to basics such as tackling and simplifying the game plan and all of a sudden the Texans started to click on all cylinders.

The turnaround then came through with the Texans going 7-2 the rest of the way.

For the most the part, NFL history will tell you that holding a 2-5 record at the midpoint of season likely seals your fate of not making the playoffs but the Texans shattered that mold and get the opportunity to game-plan for at least one more week.

I give credit to the entire organization for rising above it and showing that a Houston deserves to be represented in the postseason.

They’ll face a tough, relentless Kansas City Chiefs team that had a similar narrative to their season and are now playing their best football.

Their pass rush is deep and their offense is functional but the Texans certainly have a chance to beat it.

More from House of Houston

I honestly can’t wait until Saturday!

But let’s talk about a guy who has earned every bit of the four-year, $26 million contract extension that he received this past off season.

You definitely know that I’m talking about Whitney Mercilus.

Whenever there has been a call made out to him, he has answered it proficiently and has made numerous strides since his rookie year with the Texans.

His performance this past Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars was by far the best of the season and possibly his career.

Jadeveon Clowney was out with a foot injury so it was time for Mercilus to step up in the JACK position and he did so wonderfully.

But you don’t have to take my word for it, Pro Football Focus noticed the intense play of Mercilus and they rewarded him after a 3.5-sack, three-hurry performance.

He received a (+5.4) which was second only to J.J. Watt (+7.3), which was also notable proving that his broken hand has healed and he can now wreak havoc just like he has always done.

Mercilus has proven that he is a valuable commodity and will likely be a Texan for a long time.

I honestly think that it’s time for me to go out and purchase his jersey as well!

Mercilus, 25, had 12.0 sacks, 32 tackles (18 assists), two fumble recoveries, two passes defended and one forced fumble with an appearance in all 16 games (11 starts) for 2015.

Wow.

So who else had a solid game as defined by PFF?  Alfred Blue (+2.4), Akeem Hunt (+2.3) and DeAndre Hopkins (+2.0).

Go Texans.
