2.  AL Wild Card Game: Houston Astros Dominate To Win; Shut Out The New York Yankees 3-0

There was a good feeling that I had about this game from the start.

Although the Yankees had an impressive start, they had waned down the stretch toward the end of the season and could be quite vulnerable to the young, talented bats of the Astros.

The Astros’ September was less than spectacular but they did what needed to do in the final days to lock up a spot in the postseason for the first time in a decade.

It’s all about getting to play in October and quite honestly, that’s what matters because it’s what counts.

The stage was set at the latest edition of the Bronyx Zoo as the Astros were the new kids on the block waiting for that opportunity to shine.

The offense was dominant from the start as Masahiro Tanaka‘s pitching was no match for the Astros will to win this game.

  • It only took Colby Rasmus one inning to get the party started — he smacked a homer to right off a fly ball to not only set the tone for the game but put the Astros in the driver’s seat for the rest of the way.

This was, of course, followed by a Carlos Gomez homer at the top of the 4th out to left field — also off Tanaka — with the day capping off with a Jose Altuve single to left off of Dellin Betances to score Jonathan Villar.

This was a game of outstanding pitching for the staff with this shutout, Dallas Keuchel striking out seven, fanning one, allowing three hits and no earned runs.  The bullpen recorded three strikeouts, one walk and no earned runs with Tony Sipp and Will Harris each being credited with the hold and Luke Gregerson recording a save.

But it was a lackluster effort from the Yankees bats as well as their pitching as the Astros cruised their way into a ALDS date with the Kansas City Royals in the next round accompanied by one of the best post-game speeches that I’ve seen from an Astros manager — hell, even a MLB manager for that matter!

That was accompanied by a champagne bath, littered with googles and solid Bret “The Hitman” Hart impersonations (i.e. Rasmus).

The Astros are poised to contend for 2016 as they’re bringing most of the roster back with a few new pieces with the team acquiring closer Ken Giles a few weeks back.

Ramsus signed a one-year qualifying offer deal for $15.8 million, being the first free agent in the new era of the collective bargaining agreement to do so.

He’s ready to cash in now and contribute.

This team is going to be good for awhile and it’s finally good to start admitting that.

    I can’t wait until next season — can’t you?!?
