5.  Carli Lloyd’s Dominance Captivates America & The World

The Houston Dash are barely into their two-year infancy and the franchise already has a budding star they can definitely hang their hat on.

Speaking of hats, you all remember that hat trick that she put on during the Women’s World Cup Final against Japan back this summer?

It’s truly regarded in soccer circles as one of the most clutch goals in history; and, rightfully so.

That was just one of three goals that she scored for the U.S. Women’s Team, all within the first 16 minutes of the match and within about three minutes of each other.

This sealed the deal for the USWNT as they went on to take the gold medal with a 5-2 win while Lloyd received the Golden Ball Trophy for outstanding play and the Silver Boot for the six goals and one assist that she racked up during the tournament.

Carli takes a beating sometimes for her turnovers and not coming through in the clutch but this time she proved to the world that she belongs.

She probably got tired of the talk and finally wanted to let everybody know that she isn’t some has-been or afterthought but a talented player that deserves recognition and respect.

As the legendary Abby Wombach hangs it up after a distinguished career, new blood is needed fuel that passion for women’s soccer and the midfielder certainly a prime candidate for that.

Lloyd, 33, was traded to the Dash prior to the 2015 season from the Western New York Flash and has scored four goals in 12 appearances so far.

Take a bow Carli, you certainly deserve it.
