For the Texans, here are the players that are listed on the injury report:
- G Xavier Su’a-Filo, Calf
- LB Mike Mohamed, Calf
- WR Nate Washington, Abdomen
- RB Arian Foster, Groin
- S Lonnie Ballentine, Knee
- DT Christian Covington, Shoulder
- LB Carlos Thompson, Concussion
- T Jeff Adams, Abdomen
- CB Kevin Johnson, Thigh
- T Duane Brown, Hand
Ballentine, Foster, Mohamed and Su’a-Filo have been ruled out. Brown is listed as questionable. Adams, Covington, Johnson, Thompson and Washington are good to go and probable for Sunday.
Houston Texans’ Tidbits
- Foster returned to the practice field Thursday for the first time since contracting his groin injury August 3. He was limited both Thursday and Friday as far as participation but the fact that this news is coming out certainly demonstrates that he doesn’t have too much longer before his return. As mentioned is last week’s injury report, there is a strong possibility that Foster returns in as little as two weeks from now. However, as you know, that’s contingent on how he’s progressing in terms of his healing and his physical readiness. The committee of Alfred Blue, Chris Polk and Jonathan Grimes will work in concert to hold things down until he gets back.
- Brown suffered a hand injury during last week’s match up against the Kansas City Chiefs. He hasn’t practiced all week and is highly unlikely to play against the Panthers. I honestly think that he won’t as the Texans acquired offensive tackle Oday Aboushi off waivers for insurance purposes. There’s no way Aboushi can fill the large shoes of Brown but he’ll likely be a reliable stop-gap while Brown heals. Aboushi did start 10 games for the New York Jets in 2014. I’m also positive that Rick Smith sought out Jets’ GM/former Texans’ exec Mike Maccagnan’s opinion on Aboushi’s potential to help this team. Expect Brown to be day-to-day but expect him back within the next one to two weeks at the latest depending on his response to treatments.
- Mohamed tells the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain that he’s still experiencing soreness while trying to rehabilitate his calf. Mohamed said that “I’m working hard every day” and that “although I’m not on the field, I’m rehabbing and training hard.” Mohamed is still expected to miss at least two more weeks as a result. He’ll be a big infusion to the defensive line once he’s good to go. Akeem Dent will continue to start in his stead.
- It’s also important to note that tight end Ryan Griffin has been placed on the short-term injured reserve/designated to return list, estimated to be out for about seven weeks. Griffin has a sprained medial collateral ligament and could back as early as Week 8 but likely he’ll be back for Week 10 with the team’s bye in the middle during Week 9. Griffin had drastically improved and the coaching staff seems to favor him over Garrett Graham and C.J. Fiedorowicz. That’s certainly why the team felt that he’s worth putting on the team’s IR list.
And here’s the injury report for the Carolina Panthers:
- TE Richie Brockel, Shoulder
- DT Dwan Edwards, Groin
- DE Wes Horton, Shoulder
- LB Luke Kuechly, Concussion
- DT Star Lotulelei, Foot
- RB Jonathan Stewart, Knee
- T Daryl Williams, Knee
Williams has been ruled out. Brockel, Horton and Lotulelei are listed as questionable. Kuechly is doubtful. Edwards and Stewart are good to go and are probable for tomorrow.

Carolina Panthers’ Tidbits
- Keuchly is still going through the proper protocols after suffering a concussion last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was back on the practice field this week but coach Ron Rivera wants to reel him in from doing too much. His tone sounded as if they were going to hold him out for tomorrow to which I think it’s the safer thing to do. With the NFL under fire in regard the handling of players with concussions, this seems to be the move to make. Keuchly is huge anchor to their defensive line and was recently rewarded with a five-year, $62 million extension ensuring that he will be the highest-paid inside linebacker in the league. I wouldn’t hold my breath as far as an appearance Sunday though. A.J. Klein will be ready to start in his place as he did quite well Sunday.

- Lotulelei has been sidelined since the first week of training camp with an ailing foot issue. He did return to practice this week for the first time since then and will be a big shot in their arm on their broke-down defensive line. Since he has just returned though, I don’t expect him to be back this week. This could work to the advantage of the Texans’ running game as Lotulelei is widely-considered the anchor to the middle of the Panthers’ line. Send our guys up the middle! But we’ll have to see. Kyle Love will get the start if he can’t go.
The Texans take on the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte Sunday.
Kick-off is scheduled for noon CDT.
The game will be televised on CBS and broadcast on 610 SportsRadio AM/100.3 FM (KILT).
