King Of Houston: J.J. Watt, James Harden Or Carlos Correa?
By Bryson Jones
When it comes to Houston sports, the city is improving and is now in a good place. All three major sports teams have a great player, all of who are in their prime or have not reached that pinnacle yet. All teams – well maybe besides the Texans – have championship aspirations this season, but all three have high hopes for the next several seasons.

When talking about a “King of Houston,” there is one thing that you have to understand: Houston is and always will be a football city. That automatically gives the advantage to the Texans DL J.J. Watt.
The 26-year old was drafted as the 11th overall pick in 2011. Since then he has been a three-time Pro-Bowler, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, 2012 NFL leader in sacks, back-to-back 20 sack seasons, 2014 MVP runner up, and ranked by his peers as the #1 ranked player out of 100 other players. You can add another superlative to your dictionary; Justin James Watt.
Next on the list is Houston Rockets SG James Harden. The 26-year old was traded to the Rockets just three seasons ago and he has turned a franchise who no one cared about nationally, to one of the most watched teams in the NBA. Just last season Harden led his team to the Western Conference Finals despite all the adversity that stood in front of him. Since being in the league, Harden is a three-time All-Star, two-time NBA All-First Team member, Sixth Man of the Year (2012) and two gold medals (one in London in 2012 and the other just last year in Spain). With the Rockets healthy next season with some new additions, Harden and company look primed for multiple title runs.

In third place is the 20-year old shortstop on the Astros. He may have the highest potential of the three but he’s still so very young. Carlos Correa made his MLB debut on June 8th of this season. Since then, all he has done is mash, hitting 17 home runs, 50 RBI’s and swiping 11 bases.
It is very premature to have him on this list with players who have done it much longer than Correa. However, not having Correa in this debate would be criminal to ignore what he has done. Even though it’s such a small sample size, we can’t ignore greatness. At his position he has already surpassed greats such as Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter in their first few games with his numbers. His accomplishments may be short, but he’s going to rack them up at a rapid pace in the next decade.
