Issue: Ty Lawson’s Steadfast Refusal To Use Uber

DEFCON Level: 4

Reasoning: I really think y’all are making this a much bigger deal than it should be. We shouldn’t ever condone drinking and driving, but the guy was clearly upset with where he was at in his career and he was lashing out. That still doesn’t make his actions acceptable, but it does give us a point from where the problem escalated.

This franchise is light years ahead of Denver in terms of foundation, structure and talent. Dwight Howard doesn’t drink. We have sobriety expert, John Lucas, in town. And while I wouldn’t mind getting an invite to the $200 Million Man’s late night antics, I truly think there won’t be anymore off-the-court issues.

If GM Daryl Morey can put up with Metta World Crazy’s shenanigans, he can hire a personal driver for Ty Lawson. Because on the court, this deal is still being underrated. A half-buzzed Ty Lawson was behind only Chris Paul and John Wall in assists last year while playing with Aaron Affalo, Wilson Chandler, Kenneth Faried and some guy named Jusuf. None of whom could muster 15 points-a-night last season.

It’s no stretch to say that a sober Lawson could lead the league in assists next year on a team that just made the Western Conference Finals with a 37-year old SG playing out of position, Jason Terry, and a 38-year old PG who will be the Michael Jordan of Argentinian-YMCA leagues in the next 24 months, Pablo Prigioni.

Alcohol addiction is a serious problem though and I hope Ty Lawson can put it behind him. Hopefully, he never learns what this next issue is…
